Photoshop

What is Photoshop ?

Photoshop is an imaging software tool used by professionals for creating and editing still pictures. Although it's popular for its ability with photo processing, it is a complete tool for to create artistic imaging work of any type.

History of Photoshop

Photoshop, as a business venture, really took off in February 1990, after three years of development, with the release of version 1.0. Back then, it was just simple image editing software, but people were starting to realize that this was a tool that was way ahead of the competition. During the following years, with each release, Photoshop developed the cadence of a major update every 6 to 12 months. The backing it had from Adobe through the 90s meant that Photoshop was able to establish its dominance in the arena of photo editing. Drawing from the fact that it was complementary with other software applications & services provided by Adobe, Photoshop evolved significantly every 18 to 24 months from the CS1 (Creative Suite 1 or 8.0) version. Ever since then, a Photoshop subscription has meant the clean, complete integration with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

Applying Photoshop at Work

Some of the key functions that Photoshop delivers, is the ability of applying textures to images, the treatment (cleaning / enhancing) of Raw (uncompressed) files, the ability of changing colors and shades almost infinitely, the optimization and compression of images for Web Development, 3D Composites and Vector Tracing.
The power and precision the tool has today, allows Photoshop to play a key role in audiovisual production and in web creation while maintaining its pole position in the business of imaging.
This versatility between the world of video, photography and web is further advised by the lessons learned from other Adobe software. Thus, a single click in the "After Effects" module for example, allows a user to edit in Photoshop without having to open, save and close various different software applications. It also allows users to fully create a mock website, since all the functions are centered around the HTML edition.
Note that in addition to regularly bringing new features to Photoshop, Adobe takes special care to make the tool easy for all levels of experience. This approach allows for the gradual introduction of Photoshop as a tool to all - even if the user is not an imaging professional and/or tech-savvy.
